AI Doesn't Shorten the Road, It Lifts the Weight of the First Step

We expected AI to save us time. It gave us something that was not in any presentation: the desire to try.

Every software house has its “maybe next time” bag. An improvement that did not fit into the estimate. A technology we have wanted to check out for two years. That was not laziness - the cost of the first step was too high to fit between tasks.

AI did not take our work away. It lowered the cost of that first step.

Here is what came of it:

  • A PoC before anyone spends a single zloty on an MVP. Technical risk no longer surfaces in the third sprint, with the budget and the deadline breathing down our necks. The client does not buy a promise from a slide, but sees something they can click.

  • More within the same budget. Not because we write faster. Fewer hours go into repetitive work, so they are left for the things that were the first to drop when scope was cut: monitoring, hardening, polished UX, code that can be developed further thanks to a flexible approach.

  • A backend developer sits down to recommendation models and vector search. QA automates what they clicked through by hand for years. Nobody was afraid of these topics; we just lacked the capacity for a few evenings on something that might not work out. The comfort zone is usually a matter of the cost of entry, not of courage.

The things we “never had time for” we now develop in-house. Some of them have become something we can offer clients, instead of reading about it in other people's case studies.

A caveat: AI will not sense the client's emotions on a call, will not ask “what do we really want to solve with this?” and will not hear what was left between the lines. Technology will not replace empathy or responsibility for decisions. That is still our job, except that today we sit down to talk with the business with a fresh head and energy, not after a whole day eaten up by pounding out routine code.

Do you have an idea you keep calling “we'll check it out someday”? That is usually the best moment for a PoC. Write to us 👈
